The 14th annual Taste of Wheaton will feature Bravo’s “Top Chef: New York” finalist Carla Hall and, new this year, the Ethnic Food and Wine Tasting Pavilion. The annual event will take place on Sunday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Wheaton at Grandview Avenue and Reedie Drive.
Hall, owner of Wheaton-based Alchemy Caterers, will create a dish to be featured in the Food and Wine Tasting Pavilion, hosted by GiraMondo Wine Adventures. The pavilion will consist of three tasting tables focused on three regions of the world – Asia, Europe and Latin America. Each dish will be paired with an international wine selected by the wine experts of GiraMondo. Attendees must purchase tickets, available in advance or in limited supply on event day, and will be required to present a valid ID to take part in the wine tasting. To purchase tickets in advance, visit www.giramondowine.com/events.
Food samples from some of the area’s best restaurants will be offered at prices ranging from $1 to $5 per “taste.”
In addition to great food, live music and entertainment will be featured on two stages, with performances from WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Awards) winners, the Billy Coulter Band and Rumba Club. Dance performances will include students from the Wheaton Studio of Dance and Urban Artistry. Face painting, balloon artists and kids’ rides will also be a part of the festivities.
Portions of Grandview Avenue will be closed during the event, and Triangle Lane will be closed. Free parking will be available at the Wheaton Metro garage on Viers Mill Road and at the County garage at Amherst Avenue and Reedie Drive. The Wheaton Metro Station is located one-half block south of the event.
The Taste of Wheaton is a project of the Wheaton Urban District in conjunction with the Mid-County Regional Services Center and the Wheaton Redevelopment Program.
