Currently undergoing major renovations, the new Wheaton Library and Community Center will re-open on the same site in 2018. This new facility will combine a new Wheaton Library and a new Wheaton Community Recreation Center in one building.

The project will include the combining of redundant spaces offered by both facilities, such as lobbies, meeting rooms, and restrooms, into shared spaces. The use of shared spaces also allows for specific programming spaces such as an additional 10,000 square foot used bookstore, and dedicated dance, arts and crafts room, and ceramics studio.  The Library and recreation center will also include a fabrication lab/maker space; a game room for pool, ping pong, video and board games; a reading room; a gymnasium on par in size with the largest in the county (for use for sports or events); a three story lobby big enough to hold events;  an elevated track on the second level above the gym's basketball courts; computer labs; a café; a weight room; an upper level Social Hall; a children's library with freestanding puzzle games; and even a learning kitchen facility.

During the construction, an interim site for the library will be at located at Wheaton Ballroom, 2400 Arcola Avenue.
