“Dry Oases” explores the longstanding prohibitions of alcohol in Kensington, Damascus, and Takoma Park, which lasted for more than half a century after the repeal of national Prohibition in 1933. - The talk will focus on Kensington, and explain why Kensington was designated as a “permanently” dry town in 1933; why it stayed that way until the 21st century; and the factors behind the change. - Ranjit S.
