April is Autism Acceptance Month! To recognize its significance, various agencies from across the county are “shining brighter together” at a fun family-friendly event at Wheaton Regional Park! Participate in hands-on, sensory-friendly activities while learning more about autism and the variety of resources available in Montgomery County. Attendees will also have an opportunity to help paint our commUNITY Mural that will remain at the playground long after the event is over.

Bring a picnic or purchase food from O’Boy Pizza & Ice Cream.

Partners include Montgomery Parks and Montgomery Park Police Special Operations – including our Mounted Unit and K-9 Search & Rescue Unit, Montgomery Recreation, City of Takoma Park Recreation, City of Rockville Recreation and Parks, City of Gaithersburg Parks, Recreation and Culture, the Montgomery County Public Library System, The Arc of Maryland, Partnerships for Extraordinary Minds and more!

Activities include a chalk hop challenge, parachute games, sensory-friendly storytimes, balloon twisters, arts and crafts, and more.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

The event will include a sign language interpreter, a sensory retreat tent, wheelchairs, walkers, and other adaptive equipment, and Park Police Search and Rescue Division and Mounted Units. To request other reasonable modifications, please contact 301-495-2581 or ProgramAccess@MontgomeryParks.org
